An astonishing miniature Laughing Buddha (Budai), exquisitely hand-carved from carnelian (red chalcedony) and finished with a smooth, lustrous finish. The stone features a rich oxblood red tone with naturally darker undertones in the recesses, creating beautiful depth and contrast that highlights each carved detail. Budai is portrayed with an expressive and joyful face, holding a fan and a sack over his shoulders, traditional symbols of good luck, prosperity and abundance. The sculptor achieved remarkable definition for such a compact scale, from the flowing folds of the robe to the sharp features of the face, giving the work an unmistakable presence despite its small size. Perfect as a fine collectible, cabinet or as a meaningful accent to an interior with Asian art, wabi-sabi or a curated eclectic style.
