Swedish armchair model “244” designed by Axel Larsson for Bodafors in the late 1940s, in beech and teak.
Model “244” armchair designed by Axel Larsson for Bodafors in 1947, during the transition period in which the designer contributed to ferrying Swedish design from the Nordic Classicism of the 1930s towards the more essential language of Scandinavian modernism. The structure is made of beech, while the seat and back are in shaped teak. The design highlights a balance between rigor and softness of shapes: the open structure visually lightens the armchair, while the calibrated proportions and inclination of the legs define a stable and comfortable seat. Particularly interesting is the construction detail of the laminate armrest ends, an element that recalls the tradition of Swedish cabinetmaking and underlines the attention to the artisanal quality typical of Bodafors production.
