Item description

Description: The work portrays a glimpse of the island of Capri on the left there is a calm and transparent sea while on the right an imposing rocky cliff dominates enriched by the typical Mediterranean scrub. The drafting is material but precise influenced by the impressionist painting inherited from his grandfather James Talmage White. Biography. White Valentino (Positano, 1909 – Ravello, 1985) A painter of considerable talent, White Valentino showed a strong predisposition for painting and drawing from his youth, despite his father's initial resistance which prevented him from undertaking regular artistic studies. Still very young, he moved to Capri, where he began working in the field of professional photography. At the same time, he was able to perfect his painting technique by following the "indirect school" of his grandfather, the famous English painter James Talmage White. Over the course of his life, Valentino lived in several significant places in Campania, including the slopes of Vesuvius, in the municipality of Torre del Greco, and subsequently Ravello, where he settled permanently. His artistic career found important results in the 1950s, a period in which he established himself thanks to a series of highly successful exhibitions held in Rome. Among the highlights of his exhibition activity, we remember his participation in the XII edition of the Interprovincial Art Exhibition of the Fascist Fine Arts Union of Campania, held in Naples in 1942, where he presented the work Impressione. He spent the last years of his life in Rome, leaving a significant mark on the artistic panorama of his time.
