A powerful and exceptionally rare ceremonial mask carved from greenstone (jadeite or serpentine), originating from ancient Mesoamerica. Masterfully hand-carved with a strong, expressive face featuring a prominent nose, elongated horizontal eye and mouth slits, and a distinctive headdress with finely incised vertical striations.
This impressive mask embodies the spiritual authority and artistic sophistication of the Olmec or Mezcala (Guerrero) cultures of Mexico. The deep green stone with subtle white veining was considered more precious than gold in pre-Columbian societies. Multiple drilled holes along the sides and top indicate it was designed for wearing or ritual suspension.
