Item description

This decorative inlaid wood panel, made from various essences, faithfully reproduces one of the most famous works of the Italian Renaissance: Raphael's Wedding of the Virgin. The main scene depicts the union of Mary and Joseph, officiated by the high priest in the center. In the background stands the iconic centrally planned temple, with the famous geometric perspective characteristic of Raphael's original painting from 1504 (now preserved in the Pinacoteca di Brera in Milan). It is a work of exquisite cabinetmaking and inlay, in which woods of different essences, hues and veins have been cut and assembled to create plays of light and shadow, giving an impression of depth, without the use of paint. Frame and details: The panel is set in a richly geometric frame, adorned with herringbone inlays, leaf motifs engraved in the sheet metal corners, and blue gemstone inlays that enhance its aesthetic value. Decorative panels of this type are typical of Italian craftsmanship (with a significant historical tradition in regions such as Lombardy, Veneto, and Tuscany) and generally date back to the late 19th century and the first half of the 20th century, a period in which master cabinetmakers particularly loved reproducing the great masterpieces of the Renaissance on furniture or wall panels. Frame dimensions: 64 cm x 48 cm
