Specializing in landscape painting, the painter Romeo Borgognoni mainly depicted glimpses of the Pavia countryside, in a style which, albeit with realist rigor, draws on impressionism for its bright and vibrant brushstrokes.
There is also no shortage of portraits in his production, created in the same style.
An elderly gentleman is presented here, emerging from the monochromatic background with plays of light and shadow that highlight with a few brush strokes some distinctive elements: the blue and lively gaze, the wrinkled but rosy face, the wrinkled shirt, the firm hand holding the faithful pipe.
In a stylish frame.
