Item description

Oil on canvas. Signed G. Ramano and dated 1861 lower left. French school. The dramatic scene is set off the coast, near a lighthouse: during a storm a paddle steamer flying the French flag comes to the rescue of the lifeboat with the crew of another ship that has just sunk, the remains of which can be seen in the foreground on the left. There are traces of previous restorations on the canvas. The painting is presented in a gilded frame from the early 1900s.
