This antique carved and gilded wooden frame is adorned in the center with the face of a winged cherub and decorated with leaf scrolls and floral motifs running down the sides. This type of ornamental frieze served as a finishing touch (frame or frieze) for large fireplace mirrors, door jambs, bed heads, or even as a decorative lintel. The richness of the details, the sinuous volutes and the presence of the cherub are characteristic elements of the Baroque or late Baroque style, often taken up and reproduced in the workshops of Italian and European artisans during the 18th century. The piece is temporarily placed on a lacquered and shaped frame.
