Item description

Rare silver reliquary with beveled crystal facade, containing a relic of Saint Philip Benizi. The relic, a piece of cloth, is carefully fixed in the center of an elegant decor. It rests on a fabric base, which is itself mounted on a small diamond-shaped piece of paper or parchment. A thin silver edging frames the whole. Below, a parchment label bears the inscription "S. Ierubus santi philippi Benitii", confirming the identity of the saint whose relic is preserved. Original sealing wax. The relics of Saint Philip Benizi (1233-1285), a Florentine priest and prior general of the Servants of Mary, are linked to an important cult tradition in Florence and Todi, immortalized notably by Andrea del Sarto at the Chiostro dei Anchoring della Santissima Annunziata. The external frame presents patterns in relief, showing a work of great finesse.
