The Tric folding chair was designed in 1965 by brothers Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni as a modern reinterpretation of the classic Thonet folding chair. with its rounded backrest cut-out and clean rectangular-section legs, Tric remains one of the most recognized folding chair designs of Italian mid-century production, awarded for combining functional foldability with a rigorous, architectural silhouette. This set of eight chairs is built entirely in solid beech, finished in black lacquer, with a curved plywood backrest featuring the signature oval hand-hold cut-out and a rounded solid seat. The folding mechanism uses a simple cross-brace hinge in the same beech, allowing the chairs to collapse flat for storage — a functional detail typical of Castiglioni’s design language. Seat and backrest edges are smoothly rounded, with no applied decoration, in keeping with the model’s minimal, geometric identity.
