Driade's Kaos system was designed by Antonia Astori, co-founder of the company and one of the most influential figures in the development of Italian modular storage. Astori's work for Driade — from Oikos in 1972 through Kaos in the following decades — reframed the bookshelf and wall unit as an open, reconfigurable architecture rather than a fixed object, a research direction that placed Driade among the leading Italian producers of componibile furniture through the 1980s and 1990s. This example is built on a wall-mounted aluminum track system with five uprights supporting adjustable brackets, from which run aluminum shelves, a black lacquered metal magazine/document rack insert, and a wood writing shelf carried on two folding V-shaped metal supports. The composition spans L 224 x P 62 x H 186 cm, and the shelf heights and depths can be reconfigured along the tracks — the modularity that defines the system rather than a fixed, one-off layout.
