Item description

This impressive Gaetano sideboard, designed by Luciano Frigerio and produced by Frigerio di Desio in the 1970s, is characterized by a monumental architectural structure entirely dominated by the warm, deep reddish-brown tones of Padouk wood. The defining feature of the piece is its remarkable sculptural front, composed of a dense sequence of vertical wooden elements individually shaped into projecting and recessed profiles. Their alternating depths create a rhythmic three-dimensional surface that changes continuously according to the viewing angle and the direction of the light. Rather than applying decoration to a conventional cabinet, Frigerio integrates the sculptural treatment directly into the architecture of the furniture. When closed, the doors visually disappear within the continuous composition of vertical elements, giving the chest the appearance of a large abstract wooden relief. The long rectangular top and substantial plinth frame the composition horizontally, creating a deliberate contrast with the strong vertical rhythm of the façade. Behind the sculptural doors, the sideboard reveals a functional interior fitted with four wooden drawers, each equipped with a small brass knob. The contrast between the highly articulated exterior and the more restrained internal organization perfectly expresses the balance between sculpture and functionality that characterizes the piece.
