Etching.
Agostino Carracci draws on the Christ of Caprarola, an engraving by his brother Annibale, created in 1597 and subsequently widely reproduced.
At the bottom left, the etching bears the inscription "Si stampa da Matteo Giudici alli Cesarini," which refers to the second phase or the marketing/reprinting of the engraving in Rome, at Matteo Giudici's printing house, located near the palace or residence of the Cesarini family.
The scene features the traditional figures that appear in the episode of the Deposition of Jesus from the Cross: Mary, the disciple John, and several pious women.
Presented in an early 20th-century frame.
