Panerai was an Italian painter, teacher, and illustrator, originally from Florence, where he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts under Giovanni Fattori, who introduced him to naturalistic landscape painting of the Tuscan Maremma.
He was also drawn to military themes, with scenes of military and maritime life, and distinguished himself as an animal painter, gifted with acute sensitivity.
His style is reminiscent of sketchy Impressionism: easy, fresh, and lively.
The work is presented in a frame.
