Item description

Old French painting from the second half of the 18th century. Oil painting on canvas depicting a fabulous portrait of a nobleman/ambassador with letter (under study) by an excellent painterly hand. Finely chiselled wooden frame of the same period in Louis XVI style. The frame has been restored and cleaned (probably originally lacquered or gilded, now wood-stained). Character with wig finely represented with high quality clothes. Nice size and pleasant decoration, for antique dealers, interior decorators and collectors of antique portraits. Canvas that has undergone a conservative restoration, re-tinting, frame replacement and colour restoration in some places (see photo). A painting of great character, ideal for a salon or study. In good condition. Light painting H 78 x W 60 cm.
