PLATINUM Seller in Cuneo, Italy
Antique Italian painting of the seventeenth century. Work oil on canvas (glued on tablet) depicting mythological subject Allegory of Summer of excellent pictorial hand. Painting of great size and impact, richly adorned with numerous details of fabulous quality. Work that develops vertically, oval-shaped rectangular canvas (see photo), with Demeter (Goddess of nature and crops) and Dionysus (God of wine and intoxication) as the main figures. There are also two fauns, one portrayed next to the feline in the lower part, the other in the act of carrying a bundle of grain (see photo). Wood and plaster frame, not contemporary (19th century) adapted to the painting, nicely carved and gilded (see photo) structurally sound, with some signs of time. Work of fabulous decor, easily inserted in different points of the house, ideal for an important living room or study. Recently cleaned, shows signs of conservative restoration and color recovery in several places (see photo). Overall work in fair condition. Light painted H 106 x L 87.5 cm.
