PLATINUM Seller in Cuneo, Italy
Antique Italian painting from the 17th century. Oil on canvas painting depicting the biblical subject of the Massacre of the Innocents by a good painterly hand. Exceptionally large painting with 20th century wood and plaster frame, finely carved, ebonised and gilded (bronze tint). Work full of characters, of excellent dynamism, for antique dealers, interior decorators and collectors of antique sacred art. A subject charged with pathos, an inverted reworking with variations of Tintoretto's famous Massacre of the Innocents at the Scuola di San Rocco. Work that has undergone intensive conservation restoration, re-staining, frame replacement and colour repainting in several places (see photo). In good state of preservation with some signs of restoration. Light painting H 132 x W 178 cm.
