Item description

Old mythological painting from the 17th century depicting the Judgement of Paris. The Trojan prince must give the golden apple to the most beautiful of Athena, Hera and Aphrodite. The latter offered our hero the love of Helen and his choice triggered the Trojan War and then the foundation of Rome. Italian oil painting on canvas with a fine painterly hand, in a lush landscape the figures of Athena in armour, Hera with a peacock beside her and Aphrodite victorious with the apple of discord stand out. Painting restored and retouched during the 20th century, repainted in places, overall in a good state of preservation.
