Ancient Italian painting from the beginning of the 18th century. Oil painting on canvas, first canvas, depicting religious subject San Grato with the head of John the Baptist of good pictorial hand. Painting that develops vertically, of great size and impact, for antique dealers, interior decorators and collectors of ancient sacred art. There is a reference to the saint in the bottom left-hand corner and a date under study (see photo). The iconography often depicts Saint Grato near a well and with hail. The former is the place where, according to legend, the saint found the head of John the Baptist. Hail represents natural disasters. The saint is revered as the protector of crops from storms. Wooden and plaster frame, not contemporary, carved and gilded, with small wooden shelf in the lower part. Frame applied and fixed to the front of the canvas (see photo). Work in first canvas that has undergone a conservative restoration, cleaning and colour restoration in some points (see photo). In good condition, frame with some signs of time. Light painting H 175 x W 83 cm.
