Item description

Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni for Flos. The actual production of these "Cocoon" lamps at FLOS starts with the creation of the steel frame, which is painted white. Once the frame is ready, the "cocoon", which is a type of polymer, is ready to be applied and is spun like a caterpillar making a cocoon creating this very special effect. Two layers are applied, the first thicker, the second much thinner. The technician uses a spray gun type device while the frame spins on a spinning base, allowing for an even application. Once this is done, the technician inspects any irregularities or areas that seem thin in terms of application, applying an additional 'cocoon' coating to reinforce those areas. There are usually up to twenty-four hours between the two applications. After the two layers have been applied, a coating material, a transparent exterior varnish, is applied to add a sheen to the entire structure. Creation by Cocoon. Height without wire and canopy 40 cm
