Item description

Magnificent and majestic monumental Caravaggesque painting, from the workshop of Francesco Curradi, museum quality, depicting the Sacrifice of Isaac, the work of a great Florentine artist who worked in Florence after Caravaggio's stay in the Medici city, where Merisi was at home, thanks to his proximity to Cardinal Francesco Maria Bourbon del Monte and where he left many of his important works. This important oil painting on canvas is ascribed to an artist who certainly worked for the Medici family. The Medici season is a fundamental one in the history of art, not only in Italy, but also in Europe and globally, making Florence one of the most important places of the Renaissance. The Medici family ruled over Tuscany, with a few intervals, for a period from 1434 to 1737, more than 300 years, and they have always been patrons of the major arts. The scene depicts Abraham at the moment when he is making the sacrifice of Isaac and his hand is stopped by the angel pointing up to the divine light. Good state of preservation, work in first canvas with original frame, painting already restored and re-tinted, some small colour drops and small tears. The work is set in an extraordinary and monumental line frame, lacquered and gilded from the 17th century and contemporary to the painting, also already restored. Please find enclosed the publication of the work in the sale catalogue that shows a previous hypothesis of attribution to Andrea Vignali. Canvas measurements: 188 X 138 cm.
