Item description
Old Italian painting from the second half of the 17th century. Oil painting on canvas depicting religious subject Magdalene with Sister Orsolina in prayer and Saint Jerome Emiliani inside a cave. A painting of great size and impact adorned with an antique, non-coeval, pleasantly carved and silvered frame. A finely painted work with various iconographic references including the chains (see photo below right) in reference to the Saint's imprisonment. The book, the skull and the ointment jar (bottom left) in reference to Mary Magdalene. A work with a strong visual impact and pleasant perspective with a glimpse of the landscape on the right. An ideal painting to place in a salon or studio, for antique dealers, interior decorators and collectors of antique religious paintings. Canvas showing some signs of time, some colour fading including one clearly visible on the arm of Mary Magdalene (see pictures). Painting that has undergone conservative restoration, re-tinting and colour recovery in several places (see pictures). Work in beautiful patina, with signs of time and restoration (see pictures). Overall in fair condition, to be restored. Light painting H 156 x W 156 cm.
