Item description

Fabulous Italian painting dated 1875. First oil on canvas work depicting religious subject Madonna enthroned with sleeping child by an excellent painterly hand. Painting of great size and impact characterised by vivid and bright colours. Wood and plaster frame, carved and gilded, structurally sound, with some small signs of time (see photo). Painted vertically, signed and dated lower left (see photo) Emma Regis 1875 referring to the Turin-born painter (1854-?), lacking authentication. The colourful and embroidered robes of the Madonna, the ornate carpet at the feet of the Virgin and the gilded decorations on the throne are fabulous. A work of particular perspective for antique dealers, interior decorators and collectors of 19th century Italian paintings. It shows some signs of time, in beautiful patina, overall in good state of preservation. Light painting H 139 x W 95 cm.
