Item description

Antique Italian painting dated 1882. First oil on canvas work depicting religious subject, nocturne with characters, night on Mount Calvary. Painting of great size and strong impact adorned with coeval wood and plaster frame, finely carved and gilded (see photo). Nocturne that amplifies the despondency and anguish of Jesus' followers intent on picking up the nails and carrying away the cross on which, until a few hours earlier, the son of God had been crucified. Work signed and dated lower right L. Raymond 1882 (see photo) referable to Turin painter Lodovico Raymond (1825-1898), lacking authentication. Painting that has undergone conservation restoration with a small patch placed on the back (see photo). In good condition with some minor signs of time. Light painting H 83 x W 137 cm.
