Pastels on cardboard, early decades of the 20th century. Wonderful landscape with sailing boats signed by the Italian artist Giulio Sommati (1858-1945). Excellent artistic quality. Sold with wooden frame. Giulio Sommati di Mombello, an artist from Turin from a noble family, trained artistically at the Accademia Albertina in Turin, where he lived and worked, exhibiting in all Italian cities. He painted genre scenes, portraits, urban views (in particular his Turin markets), landscapes and, from the first decade of the 20th century, also numerous seascapes, following his discovery of and love for the Ligurian Riviera. His admirers included the King (from whom he was made a Knight of the Realm) Queen Margherita, Elisabeth of Saxony Duchess of Genoa, the Turin Promotrice, princes, municipal and national art galleries and art enthusiasts scattered throughout many regions of Italy. He is considered a great poet and his poetry was expressed in the colours of nature (mother and teacher) which he brought back to canvas. Price negotiable, please send your suggestions.
