Oil painting on canvas depicting The Rape of Europa, made in the first half of the 18th century. The model is the homonymous painting by Guido Reni. The myth tells that Zeus, in love with Europa, transforms himself into a beautiful white bull in order to approach her; the woman, once on the animal's back, is abducted and taken to the island of Crete where she becomes queen and then mother of Minos. The work has undergone conservation restoration, canvas repairation, frame replacement and color restoration in some spots. It has a 20th-century frame made of carved, lacquered and gilded wood. Without the frame the painting measures 114 cm x 85 cm.
