Item description

On one side, engraved in a delicate amber colour, one can admire a lake landscape with an elegant swan in the foreground, while on the other side one can appreciate a beautiful set of pretty plants with leaves; on the upper part of the vase the color is absent to give space to a wonderful and strong crystal grinding with stars and stripes. The vase was masterfully executed between 1948 and 1951 in an artisan workshop in the Nancy district (France), famous for the high concentration of factories and craftsmen specialized in crystal processing (Daum, Baccarat, Saint Louis, etc.) ; the vase is made of crystal with a percentage of over 30 percent lead oxide (a material developed in England by George Ravenscroft in the second half of the 17th century), very shiny and transparent; to obtain the delicate amber colour, iron oxide and sulfur were added to the crystal during casting. The glass masters then modeled the final shape, once cooled, they cut and scrupulously polished the edge in a decorative way, while the body was embellished with a graceful grinding done by hand and with meticulous care using small circular stone wheels; In doing so, a fascinating and pleasant contrast was created between the ground parts and the rest of the colored vase; finally, the vase was polished with a cork bark wheel dipped in a mixture of water and pumice and, finally, the polishing phase, obtained with a felt wheel dipped in a mixture of water, iron oxide and cerium. Our vase, with its delightful and graceful shape, tells us these wonderful stories, it is an object with a unique identity, full of elegance and refinement; moreover, the excellent quality of the crystal gives the object a high refractive index and creates extraordinary plays of light and reflections.
