Item description
The proposed object was part of a complete service, the various pieces are sold individually (for further information, contact the seller directly). Elegant rectangular tray (2 pieces available) in Limoges porcelain with shaped and molded edge. The white porcelain has been embellished with elaborate hand-made floral decorations in pure gold arranged with extreme aesthetic taste. The trays were made between 1902 and 1910 in Limoges, France, by the firm Haviland & C.ie. Contrary to popular belief, Limoges does not indicate an establishment, but a production area including several producers, all located in the center of France. His fortunes began with the discovery of deposits of kaolin near the city, purchased by King Louis XVI, who granted the privilege of building the first factory in 1711. During the 1800s the number of factories grew and it was in 1842 that David Haviland, by founding his manufacture, made Limoges the world capital of porcelain. David began writing the history of the Haviland family, a name synonymous with the art of French luxury that has survived to the present day. David Haviland was a skilled American merchant who in 1838 founded a company in New York to import ceramics and porcelain; in 1842 he decided to settle in Limoges, where thanks to him porcelain experienced an unprecedented flowering. David Haviland became world famous for his innovative eye and creative genius, so much so that in 1864 he became the most important porcelain manufacturer in France. David Haviland has always been eager to push the limits of know-how. He perfected the decorative techniques and equipped his producer of revolutionary machines. The world's greatest royal families and heads of state have succumbed to the exceptional charm and prestige of this porcelain. These include Napoleon III's wife, Empress Eugenie, President Jacques Chirac, Prince Rainier of Monaco, as well as Presidents Roosevelt and Lincoln, to name a few. Maison Haviland has been listed as a French brand of enormous excellence for more than 175 years, sublimating the finest restaurants in the world's most important palaces, such as the Ritz and Shangri-La Hotel in Paris, Le Dorchester in London, and even the Parisian Hotel Crillon. Haviland artisans have managed to preserve, pass on and keep alive their craft by combining tradition and modernity. At Haviland, it is the daily passion that builds the success of the Maison, with which they continue to write their legend. Haviland remains one of the few porcelain manufacturers that guarantees that 100 percent of its production is entirely made in Limoges. Every single decoration is still handcrafted in gold with incredible precision. More than 5,000 different decorations have been made by the manufactory since its founding, guaranteeing perfect and prestigious workmanship every time.
