Item description

A pleasant and elegant table lamp in hand-painted pink opaline glass. The shape is slender and well-proportioned; the upper part where the lamp holder is housed is made of black metal. The shaped base is made of a skillfully pierced brass plate; a premium opaline glass of a fabulous pink colour was used for its manufacture. A skilled painter-miniaturist has hand-painted delicate flowers, shoots and pretty leaves on it, all aesthetically well distributed. He put meticulous care and artistry into even the smallest details; he chose soft, pleasant colours and used pure gold in large quantities. The whole design is very rich, but of a unique refinement, a small work of art. The floral decoration is most developed on the front of the lamp. This magnificent object was made in the Napoleon III style between 1880 and 1890 in France in the craft workshops of Wimmenau in the Vosges region, an area made famous by the important glassworks in the area (Saint-Louis, Lalique, etc.). Opaline is a slightly translucent glass, opacified by means of phosphates, sodium and calcium chlorides with the addition of tin oxides and talc, thus obtaining various shades of colours from pastel to milk white. Opaline glass is much less dense and opaque than lattimo glass (very similar to porcelain); opaline proper is a French product that was created between the end of the 1700s and the beginning of the 1800s in imitation of 17th-century Murano and German semi-opaque glass and had its heyday from 1820 to 1870 thanks to the achievements of French factories (Baccarat, Saint Louis and Choisy-le-Roy). From 1800 onwards, opaline spread to all parts of the world with the handcrafted production of everyday objects. France, from antiquity to modern times, is recognised as a producer of opaline glass of the highest quality. The lamp is in good condition. The object is prepared for the use of a lampshade, which is not supplied so that everyone can choose the colour and shape they prefer to match their decor. The electrical installation is new, but the wiring is European. Voltage compatibility in other countries should always be checked by an electrician before use. Dimensions diameter 20 cm, height 53 cm. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, polystyrene, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.
