Item description
Pencil drawing on paper depicting an elegant gentleman wearing a bowler hat model and dressed in the manner of the early 20th century. Characteristic is the "bowler" hat, typical of this period. This type of hat was invented by Lord Lock, who had it made by the Bowler and Son company in 1850. The English term for bowler is in fact "bowler." Later it was produced by Lock & Co. still with its typical shape: round, stiff dome and small raised brim at the edges. At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries it gained more and more importance and has always been associated with businessmen in the City, where it is jokingly called "Billycoke," named after the grandson of the second Earl of Leicester, William Coke, who wore it to go hunting. In the United States of America, however, it is called "Derby". Italy was also a central country for the production of well-made bowler hats. Drawing complete with coeval ebonized frame. Size with frame: 28 x 24 cm. Seller provides professional packaging - insured shipping by courier - delivery by appointment - street level only, no porterage to floors.
