Pair of Fledermaus chairs in black lacquered wood by Josef Hoffmann for Alivar, 1980s
Beautiful pair of Fledermaus chairs in black lacquered wood with upholstered seat and covered in soft Viennese bottle-green velvet. Famous chairs designed by the great Austrian architect Josef Hoffmann (Brtnice 1870 - Vienna 1956) for his project for the renovation of the Cabaret Fledermaus performance hall (the 440 m2 Die Fledermaus hall of the Art Theatre) at the end of 1907. Hence the name by which they are known: 'Cabaret'. These two examples were produced by Alivar in 1984, which included this model 615 in its catalogue Museum, Masters of 20th Century Design. The chairs are in good condition. The frame is stable and solid and does not show any cracks. The velvet upholstery of the seat has no tears, holes or cracks, the black lacquering shows very well, minimal superficial signs of wear due to use. Two other chairs are available.
