Seasoning service by Henry Hobson & Sons, 19th century
Seasoning set by Henry Hobson & Sons (Sheffield, England), second half of the 19th century. Consisting of six crystal cruets, silver-plated metal base and elements. Henry Hobson & Sons is a company founded in Sheffield by Henry Hobson in 1845. A branch in London was opened in 1852 and later named George Hobson & Sons. From the 1874 London telephone directory entry the firm is called "& Co", but the firm continued to advertise itself as Henry Hobson and Son. The Queen Street factory moved to Carver Street (1901) and then to Eyre Lane, Sheffield (1912). The company used the brands x press, express, hobsonian silver and zulu. The set is in very good condition, as can be seen from the attached photos. We report a chip on the neck of one of the cruets.
