Tabarin armchair by Renzo Frau for Poltrona Frau, 1989
Dark blue leather Tabarin armchair by Renzo Frau for Poltrona Frau, 1989 (designed 1935). Upholstered with soft dark blue top grain tanned leather. Italian handcrafted armchair, made entirely by hand by the masters of Poltrona Frau. Tabarin is a comfortable armchair with an internal supporting frame made of spruce wood; it has special shaped wooden legs in dark brown. The upholstery parts are formed with beavertail elements with the famous Frau leather made directly by the company. Known for its rigorous quality standards, Poltrona Frau uses a 21-step leather tanning process (as opposed to industry standards of 12 to 15 steps) in which the full-grain leather is deeply dyed so that a surface scratch does not reveal an underlying lining. Very good condition, consistent with age and use. It is 35 years old worn beautifully. There are minimal signs of use on the leather. There is leather folding conformation on the backrest and seat cushion. In 2004, Poltrona Frau acquired the well-known Italian furniture company Cappellini, and the Poltrona Frau Group now includes the Poltrona Frau, Cappellini, Cassina, Alias, Nemo Lighting, Ceramica Flaminia and Fish Design brands. In 2014, the U.S.-based Haworth Group acquired a controlling interest in Poltrona Frau.
