Gustavo Pisani studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples under the guidance of Filippo Palizzi. He belonged to the painters of the Neapolitan school. He was a versatile artist who won numerous awards throughout his career and distinguished himself in various fields of art, including landscape and figure painting, illustration and journalistic collaboration. He was known for its ability to convey a lyrical note to his paintings, evident in the way he loved to capture the most delicate aspects of nature and things, always carefully choosing the subjects to represent. Gustavo Pisani treated various themes, including landscapes and genre scenes, drawing inspiration from views of various Italian cities.
