Antique Italian painting from the second half of the 17th century. Oil on canvas work depicting a religious subject, the capture of Christ in the Garden of Olives. On the left, Jesus is joined by Judas Iscariot, who indicates to the soldiers the person to be arrested by means of a kiss. On the right Peter lashes out at a servant of the High Priest and cuts off his ear but Jesus restrains him and heals the servant by touching his wound. Painting of excellent pictorial quality found especially in the masterful use of the chiaroscuro technique to achieve a fascinating night scene. Painting of considerable size, for antiquarians and collectors of high period sacred painting. Scenic 20th century frame of beautifully decorated carved and gilded wood, with some signs of time. Work that has been restretched and undergone restoration with frame replacement and color restoration in some places. Overall in good state of preservation. Measurements without frame: 108 x 136 cm.
