Large painting from the second half of the 19th century. Oil-on-canvas work, "prima tela", signed “G. Mantegazza” and thus attributable to painter Giacomo Mantegazza; lacking authentication. Introduced to painting by Domenico Induno, he worked in Lombardy at a time when genre painting intersected with Verismo. He was one of the Italian painters best known for 18th-century costume scenes, and this painting is a clear example. In fact, we see a gallant scene with characters in charming eighteenth-century clothing. Spectacular coeval frame in carved and gilded wood, with some minor shortages and gilding lacks (see photos). Work overall in good state of preservation. Measurements without frame: 113 x 62 cm.
