Winter landscape, oil on canvas, 18th century
Oil on canvas. The painting is based on the pictorial manner of Francesco Foschi (1710 -1780), a painter who specialised in landscapes and widely disseminated a taste for winter landscapes. In this one we have a glimpse of a mountain landscape, with a village set in a valley under snow-covered rocky peaks. Even the houses and meadows are sprinkled with snow, which is absent on the path trodden by numerous figures; the rosy atmosphere of the sky evokes the beginning of a new day, already bustling with activity. The painting has been restored and re-framed. It is presented in a mid-20th century frame.
