Item description

Oil on canvas. Signed and dated lower right, with additional inscription ‘Baden’ (locality?). The scene shows a young couple in popular 18th-century clothing, seated on a bench under a small flowering tree, along a country path: the boy is giving the girl a try at playing the recorder, a nice courtship device. There are no biographical indications of the artist, who is of Germanic origin from the name and location given. The painting is presented in a styled frame.
