Item description

Flemish picture of the second half of the seventeenth century. Oil work on canvas depicting mythological subject with a great charm, faun with fruit basket and pods. Painting attributable to a follower by Peter Paul Rubens as a copy of the highest quality of an original exposed today to Antwerp. Note the valuable invoice of the fruit basket, an amazing dead nature full of meticulous naturalistic details. The faun that looks towards us thus breaking the fourth wall. Next to him a girl or podding approaches mischievous. Framework of remarkable pictorial quality, to be seen in particular the masterful use of the chiaroscuro technique to create plasticity, volume and depth. Opera that has undergone a restoration intervention with rintelo, replacement of the frame and recovery of color in some small points. Overall in excellent conservative condition.
