Item description

Rare Italian picture of the 16th century. Oil work on table depicting a refined Madonna and Child, of extraordinary pictorial quality. The iconographic subject widespread at the time is the Madonna del Latte, or the Virgin that breastfeeds the Child Jesus. The delicacy of the faces, the sweetness of the hands, the valuable invoice of the drapery and the emotional intensity are close to the models of Ambrogio da Fossano said the Bergognone (the painting is not currently accompanied by Expertise, but it is possible to request it upon payment of the related additional costs). His work was influenced by Flemish painting and this element is also evident in the meticulous and precious details of the clothes. In particular, the child wears a brownish guise decorated with thin golden embroidery applied with great skill. In the dark background, the inscriptions always in gold "IHS" (the first three letters of the name Jesus in Greek) and "Mary" stand out. Splendid setting of the seventeenth century in painted and golden wood with phytomorphic and floral motifs, with some color falls. The gold is applied in leaf and is spread on a preparatory basis of the plaster of Bologna and Bolo and has abrasions and patinas consistent with the time. On the back we find some wax stamps, probably identifying the belonging to an important collection or faith. Work that has undergone a restoration intervention with color recovery in some places, overall in good conservative state. Painted light h 42 x l 33.5 cm.
