Item description

Ancient Italian image of the seventeenth century. Oil works on canvas with an intense representation of San Francesco d'Assisi in ecstasy. The saint is depicted in prayer, kneeling with his gaze turned to heaven and open arms as they welcomed the miracle of the stigmate. At his feet the typical iconographic symbols, an open book and a skull, which recalls the production of painters linked to the trend of darkness. The strong imprint of Carovaggesque, with clear contrasts of light and shadow and a warm and dramatic chromatism, brings this canvas closer to the Neapolitan painting of the second half of the seventeenth century. I work with great expressive force, able to create an atmosphere of intense devotion even in a contemporary housing context. Painted already restored with Rintelo, replacement of the frame and color recovery in small points. It has some color falls in the lower part (see photo), overall in the discreet conservative state.
