Gorgeous Italian painting in the second half of the seventeenth century. Oil works on canvas depicting San Rocco, a famous French pilgrim and Thaumaturge. Inventing itself as a protector from the plague scourge, it is recognizable above all thanks to the shell pinned on the cloak, a pilgrimage symbol.
The saint is represented by Busto, with his gaze shot upwards in an ecstatic attitude, while the hands on the chest express devotion and memory. Framework of considerable quality in which the pictorial performance highlights the face and hands, painted with precision and intensity.
A painting of this type put in a study, brings with it not only an aesthetic value, but also a strong spiritual and symbolic content, the pilgrim becomes an image of the inner journey of each of us. The painting has a small wooden wand, with some signs of time. Work already restored with Rintelo, replacement of the frame and recovery of the color in some places. Overall in a good conservative state.
