Madonna dell'Olivo, large painting, 18th century
Wonderful religious painting of the second half of the 19th century. Oil work on canvas, in the first canvas, depicting a Madonna and Child, of great elegance and pictorial quality. The composition refers to the famous devotional series of the Madonna dell'Olivo by Nicolò Barabino (1832-1891), a subject replicated by the famous Ligurian artist in various formats. (The painting is not currently accompanied by Expertise, but it is possible to request it upon payment of the related additional costs). The Virgin is sitting frontally in a monumental pose, surrounded by a large white mantle that recalls an oriental veil. Behind a magnificent floral motif fabric you can see, reminiscent of medieval damask cladders, so dear to pre -Raphaelite and nineteenth -century academic painters. At the feet a large branch of olive and citrus appear, symbols of peace and paradise, in a refined reference to the Renaissance symbolism. Work of great decorative charm, suitable for classic and modern environments thanks to its chromatic wealth. Coeval frame in carved and golden wood, with some shortcomings (see photo). Work that presents a small tear at the top left (see photo), overall in good conservative state. Painted light H 108.5 x L 53.5 cm.
