Flemish genre scene painting, 17th century
Wonderful Flemish painting from the 17th century. Oil work on canvas depicting a genre scene of extraordinary pictorial quality. The painting is set in front of a country house near a stone well. The subject is dominated by a family group where children are busy drinking milk while adults carry out their daily jobs. Around, some chickens, a goat and a cow complete the scene of rural life. The composition is based on a refined balance between figures, architecture and nature and manages to convey a sense of domestic serenity typical of 17th century Dutch and Belgian painting. The line is precise and realistic, full of wonderful details, such as the still life in the foreground with splendid terracotta and metal crockery. The high pictorial quality, the chromatic range and the narrative stance refer to the school of David Teniers the Younger (1610-1690), one of the most famous interpreters of the daily life of the golden century of the Netherlands. A work of great charm, perfect for classic or contemporary environments and ideal for collectors of high-period Nordic paintings. Spectacular 20th century frame in carved and gilded wood, beautifully decorated. Painting already restored with relining, replacement of the frame and color recovery in small spots. Overall in good state of conservation. Light painting H 88.5 x W 110.5 cm.
