Item description

This extraordinary console by Tommaso Barbi embodies the essence of a decorative and visionary design, balanced between art, craftsmanship and sculpture. Created in Italy in the 1970s, the work reflects that particular era of Italian design in which functionality left room for material experimentation and formal theatricality, restoring objects capable of defining the atmosphere of an environment on their own. The structure, completely covered in spiral-worked white porcelain, is constructed as a dynamic interweaving of lines and volumes. Each element, from the twisting rhythm of the legs to the continuity of the corner fittings, is designed to create an effect of fluidity and movement, accentuated by the polished brass bands that punctuate the composition with a tone of precious measure. The mirrored glass top, set like an element of light, amplifies the dialogue between surfaces and reflections, giving the whole an almost ethereal dimension. All the hallmarks of Barbi's language are found in this creation: the sensuality of the forms, the taste for shiny matter, the tension towards a discreet but unmistakable luxury. Its aesthetic, suspended between Tuscan classicism and cosmopolitan modernity, translates the concept of furniture into a symbolic object, a decorative microcosm where functionality is secondary to the visual and sensorial experience. Part of Tommaso Barbi's most exclusive production, this console reflects the spirit of the most sophisticated Italian design of the ’70s, the one that looks to Hollywood Regency and Italian Glam, but with an all-European refinement, capable of transforming matter into light and form into emotion.
