Rare Flemish painting signed and dated 1646. Oil on panel work depicting a wonderful genre scene, set in a city with Nordic characters and animated by a teeming crowd of beggars, sick people and religious people intent on giving charity. Painting signed on the wall at the bottom left JC Droochsloot and dated 1646, referable to the great Dutch painter Joost Cornelisz Droochsloot (1586-1666).
The high quality of execution and composition, punctuated by the street running deep between buildings and towers, is typical of Droochsloot. He favored a reddish-brown palette and specialized in genre scenes and allegories set in villages populated by rough figures, peasants and beggars depicted in detailed and expressive ways. (The painting is not currently accompanied by expertise but it is possible to request it upon payment of the relevant additional costs).

Overall in good state of conservation. Light painting H 59 x W 104 cm.
