Ancient Italian painting from the late 17th, early 18th century. Oil on canvas work depicting Christ with angels and symbols of the passion of excellent pictorial quality. Painting adorned with a modern carved and gilded wooden frame with velvet passe-partout. Small-sized painting, for antique dealers and collectors of ancient sacred art.
It has a plate on the front that attributes it to the famous Bolognese painter Marcantonio Franceschini (1648-1729), lacking additional documentation. The setting of the painting and the figure of Christ are very close to the famous painting Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane by Guido Reni's circle. The painting does not currently have art historian expertise which can be requested at the time of purchase (cost of the service not included in the price, contact us to receive a quote).
Work that has undergone conservative restoration, relining, replacement of the frame and restoration of color in some places (see photo). Overall, the painting is in a good state of conservation. Painting light H 41 x W 30.5 cm.
