Scagliola cast from the original of the work "original sin" by Jacopo della Quercia.
The cast has been patinated and is dated 1956, the date is engraved in the upper edge of the panel.
The original work is the third of the 10 marble bas-relief panels created by Della Quecca to adorn the Porta Magna of the Basilica of San Petronio in Bologna.
The panels were sculpted from 1425 to 1434 and since then have always been visible on the cabinets of the Porta Magna.
the 10 sculptures by della Quercia were studied in depth by Buonarotti, influencing his sculptural style, Michelangelo also drew inspiration from them for the stories of Genesis frescoed on the vault of the Sistine Chapel.
