Item description

Bas-relief sculpture on bronze plaque by the sculptor, goldsmith and silversmith Enea Stefani of Bologna. Enea Stefani, born in 1886, started his own business at the age of 17 in via Mazzini 19 in Bologna. At the age of 25, he moved to Havana in 1911 and in 1913 to New York where he worked as a pattern maker for Coldwell. At the end of the Great War, in 1919, at the age of 33 he returned to Bologna where he opened his new shop in Via Calvature 7. His production is very varied, he will become famous above all as a goldsmith and silversmith but he will never stop creating sculptures, furnishing objects, chandeliers, amphorae, clocks, even sports cups, always maintaining a very refined style and proving himself to be an all-round artist, master of the arts and eclectic. The bas-relief on sale is made in 1919, one of the first works upon returning from New York, it depicts the angel of peace embracing the globe and holding a festoon in his hands bearing the date of 3 November 1918, that of the armistice of Villa Giusti which dictated the end of the war. The angel has an olive branch in his hands, a symbol of peace, which with its branches touches all the states of the earth. The sculpture is signed below. Measurements: 26.5 x 25.5 cm weight 2382 grams.
