Louis XVI oval mirror in carved and gilded wood, 19th century
Technical Description: Refined oval-shaped mirror in finely carved and gilded wood with gold leaf. The work is distinguished by a decorative "day" (perforated) apparatus of great visual impact. The Cimasa: It has an imposing gable dominated by a large central acanthus leaf, flanked by leafy volutes and knotted ribbon motifs (typical of the Louis XVI repertoire). The Frame: The perimeter of the oval is finished with a classic "beading" pattern (drops) that gives geometric rigor to the structure. Along the sides and at the bottom, the mirror is adorned with rich garlands of roses and meticulously carved buds, which seem to climb the structure. Base: The decoration closes at the bottom with a stylised shell and further floral elements that connect the two lateral support volutes. Conservation Status: The object is in good structural condition. The original gilding shows a beautiful patina of time with small natural gaps and cracks (visible in the detail photos) that attest to its authenticity and era. The period mirror has the characteristic point oxidation. Production area: Northern Italy
